Decisions or Fate

I am back after a long break. I am sure none was waiting for my blog though my expectations are so. Anyway, I am back and this time it is not any social issue but philosophy. This one is a very short one.
I was talking to my colleague on the way back home and there was a huge argument between us as whether life is destined to be the way it is or whether we have any say in this.
When we make a decision is it that we are destined to take that decision or is it really us making the decision? Is everything decided for us when we were born or does life take twists and turns based on our decisions?
I am of the opinion that my life was already decided and I am just walking along the path we have chosen. But then again I get this doubt. If my life is decided long before why are there this feelings of hate, anger, betrayal, etc. in my life. This also contradicts the theory of rebirth, which is actually caused by our bad deeds in our current life.
So any takers to help me on this question?
Once again I thank you all for your patience. As usual feel free to comment.

According to me...Life gives you a choice which is of binary mode....The choice will be 'Yes' or 'No'....The twist and turns in the life are due to the choice we choose...So according to me all the events in our life is due to combination of Fate and Self....

You have asked a deep philosophical question. AND you seriously need a dose of The Emperor's New Mind @ the earliest.

You asked : "If my life is decided long before why are there this feelings of hate, anger, betrayal, etc. in my life".

That's what is life my friend. If there were none of these feelings, life would be too sweet and boring.

Hi Vivek,

I do not believe in destiny or rebirth. I believe that my life goes on the way I (or my parents when I was small) took the decision. If I want to get up from my seat and say Hi to you, you will see me seeing Hi to you. Period. On the way back home, if a lorry runs over me, the accident would have happened whether I was present there or not. But the point is that the accident occured because the lorry-driver was distracted or did a mistake. That is not my destiny. That is the lorry-driver's decision or mistake.
I have blogged long back in similar lines about Fate and Prayer. (http://www.chiramattel.com/ann/blog) The essence is that when something good happens to us, we say that it is our achievement; but when something miserable happens, we say it is our destiny. I cannot agree with this attitude.
I guess I confused you instead of helping you out with your question. It is nice to have such discussions. By the wy, have you seen Matrix? What do you think of the ideology there?

hi,
vivek, i am happy that obviously many indian people do not agree to your opinion. i am adding some german mustard going along with them. we as human beings are able to decide due to the fact that we (at least some of us... ;-) ...) use our brains to think ... think over alternatives and take decisions. our ability to think over alternatives, relatively free of instincts, makes us different to animals. (allthough of course in many other aspects we are very close to animals but so far they are not able to programm software).
