OM - The Sound of the Universe

Ever wondered what is the actual meaning or significance of the Hindu word 'OM'. Well this is said to be the sound of the planets and stars rotating and revolving. It is said that when you are in deep penance and devoid of any thoughts or influence of the surrounding world the only sound you hear is that of 'OM'. It is also said that the time when this sound is no more heard it means the inevitable end of the Universe.
This can also be said in scientific terms. When anything oscillates sound is said to be produced and here we are talking of planets and stars (huge masses of organic and inorganic matter) which should in effect produce sound. Probably the next claim would be that sound needs a medium to propogate and heard. Accepted but no one said that sound cannot be produced in vacuum. What is said is that we cannot hear sound in vacuum. This could also be the reason why the Universe as a whole does not have an atmosphere. If it did then the sound would be defening.
Think about this and if I am wrong please let me and others know. Comments are very much solicited.

i remember our hindi sir in school mentioning something like this - that when everything is silent,"om" is heard from earth.actually yes. everything which is not at zero K vibrates and everything that vibrates has a frequency associated with it and hence is sound. have you ever thought that world is a deafening place for small organisms ? say ants - a small wind is tornado for them , sound of our boots is thunder ! but i guess nature has taken care of it - smaller the organism , lesser its hearing sense.

well ! this makes me think of something else . since dogs, cats ..etc have a much greater sense of hearing than us(can't they hear something which is 1 KM away ?) , can they perceive earth's vibration ?

this makes me think of something else !!!! why do(did?) sages chant "om" while meditating ?
so that their "om" gets in sync with that of earth something to do with 'constructive' interference ?
interesting !

i wish we were back in college. we could've gone back to our katte discussions.
(probably you now realise that there are others who blabber more!)

i would actually suggest you to start doing some sort of meditation regularly to start realizing the power of the universe.
i think Human Beings have been endowed with greater powers (related to feeling and searching for the secrets of universe)that we can actually do something to harness these powers.

dudes, wake up! you've got the physics of sound wrong.

1. Everthing above perfect zero vibrates, true. But that vibration is produced by the movement of electrons around the nucleus and that of the hardons inside the nucleus rapidly exchanging gluons. This *vibration* does not produce sound, it cannot!

2. Sound is the latitudinal or longuitudinal movement propogated in an elastic medium. For sound to be produced, the medium has be elastic. Movement of planets and stars does not produce sound, and there is no elastic medium to propogate

True accepted that sound needs an elastic medium for propogation but no one said that sound was not produced. It is said for us to hear sound we need a medium and with this assumption your point of vibration not producing sound can also be invalidated. We cannot say that sound is not produced if we cannot hear it.
