Horoscope Matching in Arranged Marriages

Arranged marriages are a common feature in the India especially in India and this is incomplete without finding the percentage of compatibility of the horoscopes especially with the Hindus ( Horoscopes are the astronomical data which are compiled based on the day and time of birth. Horoscopes depict to a great degree the nature of the person). Why is the matching such an important concept?
To explain this let us begin as to what constitutes a love marriage. A love marriage starts off, in most cases, in the form of physical attraction (such as finding the man handsome or the women very beautiful) and then it is the attitude, intelligence that comes to the forefront (The order might vary). Therefore, the bottom line is you try to find someone compatible to your nature and attitude. Horoscopes do the same but using the mathematics of astrology.
In matching of horoscopes they try to find the compatibility of the astronomical data of the couple. In doing so they reach a conclusion as to the extent to which the couple can lead a happy married life.
The next question you will have will be that there are quite a few marriages that have failed inspite of the horoscopes matching to a acceptable extent. There are quite a few reasons to this, 1) the horoscopes prepared were not accurate enough to give the correct picture of the nature and attitude of the persons, 2) the person (astrologer) who checks for the compatibility was not qualified enough, 3) fate always has a say and if the two had survived tumultous period then they would have lived a happy life and 4) Are there not love marriages that have failed miserably.
I know that quite a few of you are not and will not be convinced by this but one must understand that this has worked quite well for centuries together in India (of course coupled with the social restrictions). So do not discard it saying there is no scientific proof to prove that this works as the counter argument is that there is no scientific proof to disprove this either.
As usual comments solicited.

Veniks.. i agree to you a certain degree. But the question is to what extent do we need to go deeper in this? And also, the accuracy depends on the so called prohit(josiyar as how they call them n tamil)

Well, you have hit the right note on the importance of horoscopic matchings, which to a great extent match the couple. But, with so many Panchangams in use in our system, where, as you all know, no two panchangams agree with each other in many details, even in the dates of moon positions and festival dates, it is really difficult to have accurate horoscopes and hence errors in the readings. Dont know How our pundits are going to fix this.
