Global Citizens

A few years ago, we were, as individuals, were not bothered about world events and if we did it was purely to shown that we are intellectually superior or that we read more than the others. But today everybody is looking at world events as it is directly affecting us more than ever. If there is a recession in the USA then it affects our jobs directly, a conflict in the middle east can raise the oil prices thus making our day to day expenses a bit more costly. We interact with people of other countries on a more day to day basis. We analyse the US, Europe's stock markets more carefully than we did prior (even if we did) as our investments in our country are tied to the investments in these stock markets through mutual funds. Seeing all this I think it is very sensible to say that we are no longer part of an economy of a single nation but that of the world and no country can survive with any one country of the world in doldrums.
