I have returned after a very long time. I guess I have not missed much. Some one out there prove me wrong on this. :-)
Hobby- The dictionary.com meaning is "an activity or interest pursued for pleasure or relaxation and not as a main occupation".
This is obviously for the people who have the time/ability/resources to indulge in such activities. Very few of us have this leeway. At the same time not all those who have this leeway do not have the intention to enjoy one. Well, here I am eliminating sleeping, watching TV and listening to music from the list.
Also, most of the hobbies like golf, photography, philately etc are very expensive and therefore are left to the upper echelons of the society. Other hobbies that involve a lot of physical activity like say cycling, running, etc are very demanding and we need to be really determined or we should really enjoy them in order to pursue them. Learning music or languages though not physically demanding are but mentally challenging. Reading is one good hobby but we are so used to visuals with all this TV, movies, pictorials that we are not used to kindling our imaginations to recreate the scenes. Creative arts requires one to be creative and many of us are very analytical and so cannot pursue this.
So what then is left for us? And if we need to get ourselves a hobby what is that we need to do? Well as I have already stated, one needs to find time and see to it that it is not taken away by other tasks, be really motivated, be determined and most of all see this task as a means of relaxation rather than work.
So what is my hobby? Well, I am still figuring out one.
But I do admire some of my friends. One is a very creative artist, other an awesome veena player (a south Indian stringed instrument), another is into hiking (this guy is so good that he knows all the hiking and trekking trails around Bangalore), another is getting into trekking and photography, one other is practicing the violin, a few of them are ardent book readers and a few of them are into watching documentaries and analysing them at the same time reading some great articles and enlightening others. Quite a few of them are into debating (though not officially) and some others are interesting in finance. There is a lot of overlap of these among my friends and are not disjoint sets.
Well I just figured mine. So mine is just to interact with them and get information from these highly knowledgeable friends in all fields.
