Ancient Science of medicine

I know that you all are waiting for my blog. Well, atleast that is allow me to dream that you people are lokking forward to reading my weblog.
The title has partly given away as to what this blog is all about. This is more on the science front.
Recently there have been news that the USA has banned a few ayurvedic drugs as there was mercury being used in these drugs and this has caused a debate here in India as to whether we should follow suit. I believe we should not.
The science of ayurveda has been using mercury in preperation of drugs for centuries and has been proven not to cause any side effects then how come we are getting apprehnsive now all of a sudden. Just because the science of today says that it is bad we just want to follow it blindly. The reason being that we have totally disregarded the fact that medicine based on ayurveda has survived through for centuries and also has created no side effects to anyone using them. Whereas, the modern day medicine claims side effects openly and we tend to use them without any problems (No offence intended).
I am not of the opinion that today's science is bad and Indian medicine is great. I am just trying to stress the fact is that we should not disregard something just because we are not ready to believe it. The question is more of faith and belief than on the actual science. People of today believe or have faith in what is being taught today and shun everything else even though it may be better than today's if further investigated into.
Has anybody heard od Reiki?Well it is a treatment without any physical contact. It is can be called as remote treatment. Tai Qi, is another ancient way of medicine which is more of an exercise rather than treatment. It is swan like movements and has been proven to make even the weakest strong and cure lot of ailments. Surgeries have been performed in India way back with ayurveda as its medicine base.
So my appeal to people is do not shun or disregard something just beacuse modern day science does not promote them

hey Vivek,

we need to change with time. Agreed that certain practices of the olden days were good. Ancient man used to never brush his teeth but if we don't now we are definitely gonna be toothless.

so u got to change with time.

Point 1: Being in practise for 2000 years does not prove that it is faultless.

Point 2: The people in US arent exactly out to kill ayurveda. Everyone knows that mercury is a proved carcinogen.

Point 3: Modern science knows much more than what was known 2000 years back.

Just because our forefathers followed it, it doesnt mean that it ought to be right... Its time we stop deing dogmatic and learn to face facts.
