Death at different times

"Death is one destination that people who reach do not return". This is one statement many would have heard. "God knows when to call you". This is another one which is quite often heard. This blog speaks of the second statement.
I have this question lingering in my mind for quite some years. Why do people die at different ages. Some die immediately after they are born, some live into there childhood, while some survive till there teenage and so on. Is it not intriguiging? I do not know whether science has an answer to this. Science might find the cause of death of every individual but can they give a theory as to why there are untimely deaths even in the so called 'developed' countries.
Well, I kind of got an answer to this while I was watching a movie, yes a movie. In that a statement was made that a person will die only when his responsiblities/work on earth is over and will not even if he tried. This could be the reason while a young girl fought the recent Tsunami tragedy by swimming for 2 days before she was rescued. There have also been instances where in people have come unhurt from disastrous events like bomb blasts, etc.
But there is a small hitch here. How does this explain the reason for the death of the newly born and still born babies? Can somebody explain?
