Immortality is actually a bane

The eternal search for mankind has been the gift of immortality (physical immortality). This has been a search that has been going since the evolution of the modern man. But coming to think about it, I am completely baffled as to why mankind would is so obsessed with being immortal. Just think about it. Let us say one such man is gifted with immortality, imagine the changes over the various decades that he has to get accustomed to in terms of changes in culture, advances in technology and its impact on day to day life, changes in societal life. Let me elaborate more. Ever heard of the concept of generation gap. The above mentioned aspects are the main cause for the generation gap and this feeling for the elders are the main causes of depression and desolation.
The other scenario is when everyone on earth is immortal. This is also very bad as then one, we would be consuming the natural resources at a far more faster rate than it is being presently and this might probably lead to wars more often over the right to use them. Secondly, mankind would probably stop evolving as it is today as the pressure to continue the existing customs and procedures would be far more than today and hence curtail the creative thinking of men. The fight for survival would supercede the quest for knowledge.
Therefore, in my personal opinion immortality is actually a illogical desire of man and I cannot fathom a situation like that. If I am offered the gift of immortality, I would choose not to accept it but rather be immortal in the minds of people. Your say!!
