I think everyone is now aware of the "Middle Class" in India, who are now becoming the largest consumer market in the world. But from the little experience I have, I have found that the middle path is nothing but trouble. It is not always the societal status but in every possible paradigm.
For eg, being a mediocre in intelligence is always tough. One is never sure if one can perform a difficult task and one is not ready to give it up either. If you are a genius then these tasks are a piece of cake while if one is dumb then there is nothing to worry about.
Similarly is the case with one's monetary status. Rich people have nothing to worry about in this case as they can afford everything and if you are poor then you are ready to live in any condition, but if you belong to the middle class, then one wants to afford all the luxuries but cannot and at the same time is not ready to be living in poverty.
It is pretty much the same in emotional status, if you are not affected by anything then there is nothing to think about and if you are highly emotional then everybody expects you to react that way, but if you are in the middle then one is never sure how one will react. For that matter, the person himself/herself is not sure how he/she will react.
I guess by now you would have got my point. If not think about it and I am sure you will see my point of view.
